Markdown Editor Preview

Privacy policy

Last updated: October 15, 2026

Markdown Editor Preview is built so that your writing stays with you. This page explains what the site stores, where, and what it sends over the network.

Your documents

Documents you write or open are stored only in your browser on this device, in its IndexedDB storage. They are never uploaded to us or to anyone else, and we have no way to read them. Files you open from your computer are read in the browser and are not uploaded either.

You control this data. Deleting a document removes it; clearing this site's data in your browser settings removes all documents and settings. Backups you export are files on your device that only you hold.

Other data stored in your browser

None of this is sent anywhere.

Analytics (only if you accept)

On your first visit we ask whether we may use Google Analytics to see how the site is used. If you choose Reject, or don't answer, nothing is loaded from Google and no analytics cookies are set.

If you choose Accept, Google Analytics receives:

It never receives your documents, their titles, file names, what you search for, or your settings.

Google Analytics sets two cookies, _ga and _ga_<ID>, which tell repeat visits apart and last up to two years. Google processes this data on our behalf, possibly in the United States, and deletes it automatically after a limited period. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off. See Google's privacy policy and how Google uses data from sites that use its services.

You can change your mind at any time: use Privacy settings at the bottom of this page, or Settings → Privacy in the editor. Turning analytics off stops it and deletes its cookies.

A note on security: once loaded, Google's script runs in the page like the site's own code, so it could technically read data stored in your browser by this site. We load only Google's official script, only after you accept, and no other third-party code.

Network requests

The site loads its own files from this domain. It shows no advertising. Apart from Google Analytics, if you accept it (see above), it uses no third-party scripts and sets no cookies.

The only way content reaches another site is through your documents: an image whose address points to another website is loaded from that website, which can see your IP address. To prevent this, turn off Settings → Preview → Load images from other sites; such images then load only when you click them. Links open other sites only when you follow them.

Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP address, time and requested file) to deliver the site and protect it from abuse. Your documents are never part of these requests.
